Welcome to Gorilla Academia, this site is designed to be a place of creativity, expression and self-promotion, initially most contributions will come from myself (Lucas Bennett), eventually, if possible, I would like to have more contributors and will welcome them at the earliest opportunity.

The terms; creativity, expression and self-promotion are quite ambiguous and can mean a large amount to many different people but essentially in the context of this website, I would like to showcase creativity in the forms of music, art and prose which I would like to show my support for. I would like to present political, philosophical forms of expression and calls in support of causes aimed to improve equality. Self-promotion is the most inaccurate term used out of the three; it would be more adequately described as “promotion of academics” because in most cases to start with it will be myself (again hopefully, others will join) writing reviews of pieces. This is in an effort to show that traditional academia such as; sociology, psychology, philosophy and politics are very relevant and provide backing to causes that fight the wrongs of our society, thus making real changes to the country and world we live in today.

1961 marked the founding of amnesty international, a organisation that made real changes to many by simply sending hand written letters. Today, we have no need for pens and paper, I argue, our activism is best when electronic. I’m asking for help, I’m asking for support, but only by sharing the hash-tag #GorillaAcademia in relation to any issue raised on the site.

I seek with this site and god willing many others, to show how society is vibrant with creativity, morality and passion. Thus hopefully with the help of social media and the internet, upon the precipice of political and creative emancipation.

To see the soul in the sands of time thrown upon my actions hurts more than the knife in my heart. You can only live for today not tomorrow or yesterday but I’m forced to look upon my face without the lines of time you should shear.

I see the paintings of the mind everynight, I can not run, I can not hide. I hear the same words repeated or rewritten, a second chance that wasn’t given. My soul longs to despise the pain but instead seeks it, a labour of the heart and a lifetime of regret. I have so many books in my bag, I’ll learn to carry another but this world owes me the calm after a long storm. I’ll live on, wishing the sun will realise how the moon loves the daylight. The hearts biggest enemy is the soul, the heart sees today while the soul see’s a lifetime of experiences and actions.

Judge me on the words of my soul and not my heart, forgive my flaws and love my highs.

so im a dude, so i doubt you wanted a response from me. I believe though that we need another to make ourselves complete, someone to emotionally and physically protect ourselves from our own mind and the world around us. I think its a mix of romance and self preservation.

I fear that not knowing my past will lead me to a blind future, i have no ancestors of substance! no one i can look upon with pride, no one i can aspire to live up to or better. non of them have documented; their story, their feelings, their reactions to great pain or their joy at achieving a great goal.

I wish i was someone with a history to look upon as my own but i’m not, i’m a mongrel. i will seek to make something of myself one day but today, i’m nothing but a boy without a history of pride to speak of.
